Students may enter using one of the following formats:
This format MUST be an individual (one participant) entry
The essay must:
- Be submitted online using the online entry process.
- Include a bibliography
- For Primary 2 and above, include a reflection of not more than 150 words which summarises why the topic was chosen, how the research was carried out and what was learned.
Primary 1 – up to Year 4
LENGTH up to 400 words (using computer word count), not including the bibliography.
Primary 2 – Years 5 to 6
LENGTH 400 to 800 words (using the computer word count), not including the bibliography or the reflection.
Years 7 to 8
LENGTH 800 to 1,200 words (using the computer word count), not including the bibliography or reflection.
Appropriate referencing must be included as well as a bibliography including three (3) annotations.
Years 9 to 12
LENGTH 1,000 to 1,500 words (using the computer word count), not including the bibliography or the reflection.
Appropriate referencing must be included as well as a bibliography including three (3) annotations.
Note: The total word count includes quotations but not citations (footnotes, end notes or in-text).

A 3D Model is a physical representation or model based on the theme.

Your entry must:
- Be submitted online using the online entry process.
- Be an individual or group entry, (maximum of three in any one group).
- Have a limit of 1,000 words of student composed written material, (800 words for Years 5-6 and 400 words for Years P-4). If AV devices are built into the model they should have less than 3 minutes of recorded information. A transcript of any AV material must be submitted with the entry. This limit DOES NOT INCLUDE primary sources on the model.
- Be less than 1 metre wide, 1 metre deep and 1 metre high when assembled.
- Be portable, lightweight, demountable and sturdy for transportation interstate if necessary. It MUST be submitted in a package suitable for transport by post or courier. (This is for potential display NOT submission.)

Submission
- You need to take photographs or make a video of your model that can be uploaded together with the bibliography and other files that may be required to judge the entry.
- The judges need to be able to see the entry as a whole as well as the different components.
- If text was integrated into the model, please provide a close-up image of the text or add the text files separately.
- Please contact your state coordinator for any further guidance.
